Subramanya Bharathi! My Idol! My Hero! 

He is my inspiration on many counts along with Ramalinga Adigal, Thiruvalluvar & Maestro Ilayaraja. It is a pity that we lost such a visionary at a young age. He would have inspired the younger generation in India, who in turn would have made a better India. 

He was born in a land of paradoxes, a land where arrogance and humility, cruelty and kindness march together, a land of some dazzling ideas and millions of mute people, a land where there is courage as well as fear, the land of faith as well as despair. 

What was he like? 

I’d describe him to that of a wind, powerful at times like a twister, but gentle like a breeze that caresses the senses. He was like no other; A man who was bold, fearless, sensitive, respectful, nurturing, at the same time, a bit eccentric, from what I gather.

He worshiped nature, respected, and penned poems on it. 

அண்டம் குலுங்குது,தம்பி!-தலை
ஆயிரந் தூக்கிய சேடனும் பேய்போல்
மிண்டிக் குதித்திடு கின்றான்;-திசை
வெற்புக் குதிக்குது;வானத்துத் தேவர்
செண்டு புடைத்திடு கின்றார்;-என்ன
தெய்விகக் காட்சியை கண்முன்பு கண்டோம்!கண்டோம் கண்டோம் கண்டோம்-இந்தக்
காலத்தின் கூத்தினைக் கண்முன்பு கண்டோம்!

Bharathi is considered to be an adversary for women & their rights in the society. He advocated their rights to education. He visualised a modern India where men and women were deemed equal. 

ஆணும் பெண்ணும் நிகரெனக் கொள்வதால்
அறிவி லோங்கி,இவ் வையம் தழைக்குமாம்;பூணு நல்லறத் தோடிங்குப் பெண்ணுருப் போந்து நிற்பது தாய்சிவ சக்தியாம்;நாணும் அச்சமும் நாட்கட்கு வேண்டுமாம்;ஞான நல்லறம் வீர சுதந்திரம்
பேணு நற்கடிப் பெண்ணின் குணங்களாம்;பெண்மைத் தெய்வத்தின் பேச்சுக்கள் கேட்டிரோ!

Bharathi’s patriotism & his love for his motherland were undisputable. He passionately dreamt of the day his country would lead the world in culture, trade, literature and every other aspect of life. He penned those dreams in living words.

நன்மையி லேஉடல் வன்மையிலே-செல்வப் பன்மை யிலேமறத் தன்மையிலே பொன்மயி லொத்திடு மாதர்தம் கற்பின் புகழினி லேஉயர் நாடு

He believed strongly that any religion should not be priest-crafted; He wanted to push aside the priest so that the teacher can get a place, well deserved. It should make people realise new truth and take a new path. He strived to release the people from the clutches of the Astrologer, and place Astronomer before them. 

மந்திரம்கற் போம்வினைத் தந்திரம்கற் போம்;
வானையளப் போம் கடல் மீனையளப் போம்;
சந்திரமண் டலத்தியல் கண்டு தெளி வோம்;
சந்தி தெருப்பெருக்கும் சாத்திரம்கற் போம்

He fought with courage. Though he left us before he saw his 39^th birthday, he left an armoury of thoughts, enough for the successful generations to flourish.

நாட்டின் நிலைமையை முன்பே உணர்ந்த தீர்க்கதரிசியே! உன்னால் இந்நாட்டை காப்பாற்ற முயலாது என உணர்ந்து முன்னமே உயிர் நீத்தாயோ!
